Anesthesia Options

Many patients feel anxious before a surgical procedure. This nervousness is completely normal, and the staff here at Oral Surgery Specialists of Atlanta wants to ensure that you feel as comfortable as possible. That is why we offer many options for sedation when you undergo a procedure with us. The method used depends on the preference of the patient and the nature of the procedure being considered.

ANESTHESIA OPTIONS

Local Anesthesia
A numbing injection that is applied directly to the surgical site.

Nitrous Oxide
This anesthesia option, also known as "laughing gas", is used to calm and relax patients who elect to be awake during their procedure.

General Anesthesia
Anesthesia is administered through an intravenous (IV) line, suppressing your consciousness and allowing you to “sleep” during the procedure.

ARE ORAL SURGEONS QUALIFIED TO ADMINISTER ANESTHESIA?

As board certified oral and maxillofacial surgeons both Dr. Aiken and Dr. Shessel were highly trained to safely and effectively provide anesthesia in the hospital setting prior to entering into oral surgery practice. Their extensive experience includes administering anesthesia in the operating room, as well as in outpatient surgery centers to enhance overall patient care. They have received the highest level of licensure from the state of Georgia to perform office based general anesthesia, which distinguishes them from the majority of general dentists.
